We are a chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), a large North America-wide organization of tens of thousands of RV owners. FMCA provides numerous benefits to members as well as having hundreds of Chapters formed to enjoy group camping and rallies.
We are a group of individual RV owners that get together five to six times a year at various campgrounds in Southern Alberta and sometimes beyond.
This Chapter exists to promote social, recreational, and informational exchange activities that provide for the enjoyment and pleasurable use of Chapter member RVs.
My wife Niki and I joined the Southern Alberta Drifters at the invitation of veteran RVers Stephen and Anne Pick in the spring of 2022. Normally we avoid joining ‘groups’ but as we had recently acquired a motorhome and felt we needed ‘coaching’, this was the quickest means of surrounding ourselves with people knowledgeable on the subject. RVers are undoubtedly, a culture unto themselves.
At our first event, we were immediately impressed by the sincere and inclusive nature of the entire group! Mostly retired, they represented a broad cross-section of society, vocations, and disciplines. Evenings by the campfire revealed not only great stories and experiences - but as well, answers to many of my questions about the mechanical workings of these mysterious conveyances.
Loosely structured, members of the group were quick to help, volunteer for, and participate in a way that added a great deal to the overall enjoyment of the camp-out. Afternoon games, organized tours - or simply relaxing and enjoying your own ‘downtime’ seem to be the order of the day. Most of the events throughout the season are ‘hosted’ by volunteer members and offer a range of themes. Group meals, breakfasts and organized tours of interesting ‘close by’ facilities add greatly to the adventure.
If you are looking for an inclusive group to help YOU get the most out of the RV experience, I have no qualms about recommending the Southern Alberta Drifters.
